Description
made up of individually cut pieces of wood that fit together with mortise and tenon joints
the winding florals in soft creams and golds contrast well against the dark background
the cabinet would most likely have been presented as part of the celebrations for a wedding
This style of chair appeared slightly later in China's history than the 'Yoke-Back' or 'Official's Hat' chair
Miao Embroidered Cushion Cover Chairs made up of individually cutThese brightly patterned cushions are hand stitched on both sides using old cotton and hemp fabric taken from the hems of the dresses of the Miao people. One of China's largest ethnic minorities, the Miao live mainly in Guizhou province and are well know for their colourful embroidered fabrics and silver jewellery. The vintage fabric is carefully cut and stitched by hand, so each cushion cover is unique. The images shown here are examples only.
